A wide range of luxury compact crossovers follow a safe and predictable script, when it comes to exterior styling. However, the Range Rover Evoque goes beyond the luxury market’s expected looks, for a more dramatic and eye turning design. Even though the Evoque is the baby of the Range Rover models it has a serious all-wheel drive system that gives it off-road credibility never seen before in a luxury compact crossover.

Design
The Evoque's bold exterior features striking interpretations of classic Range Rover design cues, including the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid 'wheel-at-each-corner' stance. The front-end design is dominated by a two-bar grille and distinctive headlamps. The Range Rover Evoque’s stylish body incorporates precise, tight shut-lines, striking details (like the bonnet vents and side vents), and the slim front and rear lamps with their LED signature lighting and narrow blade indicator clusters.
Dynamic front look |
The Range Rover Evoque adopts a dynamic profile with its dramatic rising beltline, a muscular shoulder, running the length of the car, and a distinctive floating roofline. The bold profile dominated by the exaggerated wedge of the window line is emphasised by the black pillars. Pushing the wheels out to the four corners gives the Evoque its purposeful stance. The wheel arches are wide, but softly integrated into the body.

Performance
Anyone seeking the Range Rover Evoque should seek the following two engines; the Turbo-Diesel SD4 and the Turbo-Petrol Si4. The 4WD 2.2-litre Turbo-Diesel SD4 churns out 140 kW (187 hp) and 420 Nm of torque. With this engine in the Evoque 0 to 100 km/h takes 8.5 seconds while top speed is pegged at 195 km/h. This particular SD4 engine requires only 6.5-litres of fuel to cover 100 km.
The most powerful power plant is the 4WD 2-litre Turbo-Petrol Si4. The powerful petrol power plant churns out 177 kW (237 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. The engine sprints the Evoque from standstill to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Top speed is pegged at 217 km/h. The performance figures are matched with a fuel consumption rate of 8.7-litres/100km. Paired with both engines is an AW F-21 six speed transmission, which has been extensively tuned to improve its operational efficiency.

Suspension
The Range Rover Evoque’s suspension system has been developed to deliver outstanding dynamics both on- and off-road. The Evoque's fully independent suspension system features coil sprung struts front and rear together with isolated front and rear sub frames. The supple, long-travel suspension design, large-diameter gas damper struts, and extremely stiff isolated sub frames all contribute to the Evoque's absorbent ride, and its confidence in challenging off-road conditions.

Verdict
It's not the most practical crossover SUV, but the Range Rover Evoque has a lot of style, refined driving manners and the traditional Land Rover off-road talents to make it a very appealing compact luxury crossover.
